If it's not enough that culture can be shocking adjusting to, other intricacies of it all can come in the way making your experience all that more frustrating. Thanks to all of you who responded to my US police clearance query so thoughtfully. It's always daunting to deal with bureaucracy [as I'm sure every last one of us here knows!], but it's nice to know others have gone through similar processes and come out unscathed... well, relatively.
